Some other early proposal for Surtur for Thor : Ragnarok. This one is not red, this one is not in fire and without muscular anatomy like the comics reference. It was cool and interesting to try some free and fresh version of this character. Taking some distance from the initial material. Giving a wide spectrum of proposals is part of the job. This one is dealing with bones (the horns are like two desicated arms), crusted lava and ancient armor. A complete joy to work under the guidance of the mighty @andyparkart letting me try some crazy stuff. #thor #thorragnarok #marvel #mcu #marvelcinematicuniverse #surtur #kirby #conceptart #asgard #instaart #marvelstudios #creature #digitalpainting #demon #inferno #muspelheim

This is a mind map done in my sketchbook about Surtur for Thor : Ragnarok. First step for me after receiving the art brief by @andyparkart. I’m putting the name of the topic right in the middle then I’m taking notes. References, words, background, small sketches and symbols. Then I’m trying to associate ideas and to find some new ones. I also go on the internet using wikipedia and doing some image search. Basically I’m trying to get the essence of the topic and developp some early interesting paths. It also allow me to avoid the syndrom of the blank page when I start to paint on my computer. #thor #thorragnarok #marvel #mcu #marvelcinematicuniverse #surtur #kirby #conceptart #asgard #instaart #marvelstudios #creature #sketchbook #demon #inferno #muspelheim #teamandy #plasma #process #mindmap #visualdeveloppment #ideas

Another gladiator for Thor : Ragnarok. You can see it several times in the movie but few seconds. In the tunnel that Thor go through when he arrived on Saakar. With all the background story. And he is one of the guys around Miek, part of his team . I was dealing with the Kirby references that the director #taikawaititi wanted to put in the movie. So that's partly why this shapes and those blue patterns. It finally ended looking like some kind of gladiator mixed with a spray can. That is his nickname : Spray can… – #thor #thorragnarok #marvel #mcu #marvelcinematicuniverse #grandmaster #kirby #conceptart #saakar #instaart #marvelstudios #costume #digitalpainting #gladiator #arena #teamandy #spraycan #miek

This is a close-up of a scavenger for Thor : Ragnarok that I’ve posted full length. I’ve talked about some easter egg in the background so this is it! Coming from the first Avengers movie. If you seen the movie you’ve heard about satan anus (not to mistake with Trump twitter account) and all this gates in Saakar sky. Basically there are stuff falling from other worlds through this holes on the planet. Which looks like some giant garbage dump outside the city. So I thought it could have been interesting to use some other elements of the mcu like a Chitauri ship. #thor #thorragnarok #marvel #mcu #marvelcinematicuniverse #kirby #conceptart #saakar #instaart #marvelstudios #costume #digitalpainting #scavenger #arena #teamandy #chitauri #satananus

A concept art for the giant wolf Fenris in Thor : Ragnarok. There was a lot of iterations before coming back to the current dark and bulky wolf. This one was still about the idea of moving interlacing but pushed forward. Like the whole creature is made of nordic patterns in motion forming the body. And also with some hints of dark and immaterial smoke in order to make it looks more than only a physical creature. Fenris is more than a huge ferocious wolf : he's an important piece of the asgardian mythology and the Ragnarok concept. Still with @andyparkart lead. – #teamandy #thor #thorragnarok #marvel #mcu #marvelcinematicuniverse #fenris #fenrir #asgard #wolf #kirby #ragnarok #interlacing #conceptart #instaart #marvelstudios #digitalpainting
